Akeem is an experienced economic development professional who breaks down silos and works across public and private sectors to create collaborative, sustainable solutions for economic growth.
As founder of The Intersect, Akeem breaks down limiting silos with a proven track record of building effective partnerships that develop and advance a shared community vision. His experience building partnerships has allowed local governments, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors to collaborate.
With a background in economic development, branding, and project management, Akeem’s expertise enables local government, resident, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors to collaborate. He has implemented innovative commercial corridor revitalization activities that have spurred economic and retail development, job creation, sustainability, blight and litter reduction, retail and restaurant site selection, business attraction, and crime reduction.
Akeem has designed or implemented market-driven activities focused on economic development in Port Richmond, Kensington, West and North Philadelphia, as well as Cleveland. He also headed community revitalization projects for the 52nd Street corridor in Philadelphia.
As a Senior Account Executive at an advertising agency, he managed both Fortune 500 clients and national nonprofits to establish and extend their brands. Akeem also served as the Marketing Director for a child welfare agency to secure temporary as well as permanent homes for children.
Akeem currently serves on the boards of the Department of Commerce American Street Empowerment Zone Trust and the Workshop School in Philadelphia. He was also awarded an Emerging Cities Champion Fellowship by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. He aims to connect stakeholders to all aspects of economic development in hopes of building capacity, collaboration and awareness.
