Village Public Tour: 4th Tuesdays
September 22 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
We are happy to announce that you can now visit The Village for a tour on every 4th Tuesday of the month, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Thirty years ago, when The Village started, 75% of its area consisted of vacant lots and abandoned properties. Today, over 100 lots have been transformed into art parks and gardens. Ten dilapidated buildings have been converted into studios and education centers. The heart of The Village is readily identifiable through the consistent inclusion of color, materials and nature which differentiate it from neighboring streets and buildings. The Public Tour will walk visitors through the evolution of our campus, and introduce them to current staff, programs and participating community members.
The Public tour will cover:
* The history of The Village, beginning with Arthur Hall and the Ile Ife Black Humanitarian Center
* The creation of The Village’s Parks and Gardens
* Current programs such as Village Youth, the Civic Power Studio, the PhillyEarth Urban Farm and the People’s Paper Co-op
A donation of $5 to $20 based on ability to pay is suggested to support ongoing maintenance of Village parks and gardens. All residents of the 19133 area code may attend for free.
