The Creative Apprenticeships Initiative provides opportunities for teens to apply the skills they’ve mastered through Arts Challenge to social enterprise. Apprenticeship projects include CRED: Amplifying The Voice and Vision of Young Philly, a citywide magazine highlighting creative work of young people; Village Sound Industries, a music production studio where youth record and produce the music of other youth; and reVamp, a fashion design studio where young designers redesign old clothing into on-trend, marketable fashion pieces.
In preparation for high school graduation, students work with Village mentors to research post-secondary options as well as vocational schools and youth service corps. Students form peer review groups and discuss college applications, share drafts of admission essays and provide feedback in assembling artistic portfolios. Resources for SAT preparation, federal aid and scholarships counseling and additional tutoring are available year-round.
