On June 5, The Village’s Creative Impact Portrait Studio, powered by teen interns Lamar, Kayla and Seyni, Teaching Artist Holli Stephens, and presented in partnership with ArtBuilt Mobile Studios, documented and shared the unique faces and diverse gifts of Brooklyn’s Kensington community.
More than 75 community residents sat for their portraits inside the Mobile Portrait Studio. Residents were asked to answer the question, “What is your one gift—a talent or skill—you can give to your neighborhood?” They recorded their answer on a small board and posed for their portrait while holding the board in front of them.
Each individual or group received a printed copy of their photograph following their photo session. The collection of portraits were printed on huge vinyl banners that now adorn the plaza, a powerful representation of individual strengths made exponentially more powerful when mobilized as a whole.
